Use Commercial Bands as a Specification Framework, Not a Price Promise
First, quartz suppliers are often described as value, standard-distribution or premium/project-grade. Those labels are useful only if they describe what is being controlled. Specifically, they are not formal industry grades, and price alone cannot prove which band a slab belongs to.

What Actually Drives Quartz Slab Cost?
1. Raw-Material and Formulation System
First, mineral inputs, resin/binder system, pigments, recycled inputs and specialty formulation choices affect material cost. Low-silica or silica-free systems should be priced and evaluated as their own product formulation rather than assumed to carry a universal percentage premium.
2. Thickness and Usable Slab Area
First, a thicker slab contains more material and changes production, handling and container weight. Compare the supplier’s usable slab dimensions, not only nominal dimensions. A lower price per square meter can be misleading if edge trimming or quality zones reduce the saleable area.
3. Slab Format
First, large and jumbo formats can increase press, polishing, handling and packing requirements. Do not apply a fixed “jumbo premium” across suppliers. Specifically, ask the same factory to quote the same SKU in two formats so the size effect is isolated.
4. Pattern and Process Complexity
First, solid colors, conventional veining, multi-color designs and printed quartz use different process steps and control points. More complex patterns may require additional pigment, print/transfer operations, version control or inspection. Specifically, the price difference should be evaluated against the actual process route.
5. Finish and Surface Processing
First, polished, honed, textured and specialty finishes can change production time, consumables and acceptance criteria. Confirm whether the quoted finish is standard for the supplier or requires a separate production run.
6. Packing and Export Preparation
First, export packing is not a single standardized “A-frame versus crate” hierarchy. The correct method depends on slab size, thickness, container plan, unloading method and route. Specifically, compare the actual packing bill of materials, protection at slab faces/edges, restraint method, container blocking and loading photos.
7. Order Volume and Color Mix
First, a full production run of one repeat color is economically different from a mixed order containing many low-quantity SKUs. Ask suppliers to disclose the MOQ or surcharge by color, not only the overall container MOQ.
Container Economics: Price Per Square Meter Is Not Enough
First, the effective logistics cost depends on total shipment weight, slab count, usable square meters, packing weight, container limits, route and destination handling. Do not assume that every 20GP or 40HQ holds the same number of slabs.

Cost per saleable sqm = (product + packing + origin charges + freight + import charges + inspection + destination delivery + expected loss) ÷ expected saleable sqm.
For mixed containers, also calculate cost by SKU. A low-volume color can consume disproportionate production. Picking and inventory cost even when the container-level average looks attractive.
Origin Changes More Than the Factory Price

U.S. Buyers: Trade Treatment Can Dominate the Price
For U.S. imports, do not calculate a China-origin quartz landed cost by adding ordinary customs duty and freight to an FOB quote. Existing U.S. antidumping and countervailing duty orders on certain quartz surface products from China remained in place after the 2025 sunset reviews. However, whether a specific product is covered depends on the written scope and transaction facts.

- Requote before commitment. Market listings and historical quotes are discovery tools; the purchase decision should use a dated written quotation.
